3 days of riding......sorry for the delay

Apologies for the delay.

Monday: Syracuse to Herkimer, NY: 71 miles; 1,492 feet of climb

Busy roads in Syracuse and Utica. One of the riders hit something on a descent and his carbon fork broke into 3 pieces. He took quite a tumble. Thank goodness he is ok. Went out that night and bought a new bike and has been riding since. He is remarkably strong physically and mentally. In private he will share that "it only hurts when I breathe"

Tuesday: Herkimer, NY to Troy, NY: 85.1 mies; 2,223 feet of climb.

Beautiful ride. Had the Mohawk River off our right shoulder for quite a bit of the morning. Then we crossed the Hudson and had that on our left shoulder for ~15 miles in the afternoon.

We enjoyed the rolling hills, the farms, and how many schools and churchs were founded in the 1700s.

This one, although vacant, seems to be well made. The slate roof still lokks great.

We rode on a bike path along the Hudson for 10+ miles.

There are jelly beans with high sugar and caffiene. They tour ran out of them, so Linda is rationing them out.

Troy is a nice town that is known as the "Collar City". They used to make shirt collars there.

Wednesday: Troy, NY to Brattleboro, VT: 73.7 miles; 5,400 feet of climb

Two major climbs today. During the first descent we came upon an ambulance and state troopers on the right side of the road. Traffic was stopped. Our hearts sank, as we knew who was riding in front of us. As all the vehicles pulled away to take our friend to the helipad to be helicoptered to Albany, Linda and I just stood on the shoulder of the road alone and cried. It just shook us to our core. Such a range and boiling over of emotions.

We finally got good news at dinner that considering the crash, that he will fully recover and be ok. His bike is destroyed. It is going to take time to get over this event.

The views from the top of Hogback Mountain were beautiful.

There seem to be a lot of stickers on signs, guard rails, etc in Vermont. The stickers are made quite well. There were a bunch of "Kerry for President" stickers on the Welcome to Vermont sign.
