3 days worth; sorry about that
Tuesday: Wooster to Niles, OH: 93 miles, 3,600 feet of climb:
Started off with a bit of rain. Like the 2 days before, we dodged any major storms. Just wet roads for most the day.
Rode down into Canal Fulton, which is experiencing significant flooding. A lot of pumps running outside a lot of buildings.
As we head north and east, the land gets a bit dryer and the crops a bit taller. The farms are beautiful.
I liked the large milk jugs at the entrance of this dairy farm.
Rode by some very large dairy farms. One had six tankers ready to be filled.
Ate dinner with the other riders at an Outback Steakhouse. First time eating at one, better than we expected. That maybe due to so many meals at Applebees.
Wednesday: Niles, OH to Erie, PA: 90 miles, 1,600 feet of climb
Dry roads, some pretty fog to start the day.
Rode into Ashtabula County, where Linda was born and raised. So many good memories, and sadness that Linda's parents aren't with us and able to see her pedal through the county that they were also born and raised in. They would have been beaming with pride.
Rode by one of the lumber yards Linda's mom and dad owned with their friends.
We both chuckled at how we spent more than a few new year's days with Linda's family, doing inventory..........with a hangover. Back then, it was always seemed like the longest day of the year.
Rode through
This is where some of the "wilder" branch of Linda's family live(d). Wilder, as in getting the attention of the local constable........photograph holding a number type attention.. When a "Pierponter" with a same name of the tamer side of Linda's family made the local paper for an interaction with the law, it quickly worked its way through the grape vine with funny one liners attached.
Got to ride by a church that Linda's brother built a few years ago. He and his family are in West Virginia on a mission trip, so we missed getting to see them. We get to catch up with all 7 of them in late July.
Stopped at the White Turkey in Conneaut for lunch. Linda's Aunt Dee and sister Susan joined us.
Lot's of reminicing and laughs.
A nice ride into Erie. I have driven past Erie so many times, but never stopped. My loss. It is quite a nice town.
Had a nice dinner in a outside space at a local brew pub with Susan and one of her dogs Ziggy. It is the first time we had 2 beers in one day in a number of weeks.
Thursday: REST DAY
We are staying right on the waterfront. A very nice, active area with lots of places to eat.
Whenever we stop for the day, the first we do is recharge everything
Then we do our wash and hang it by the air conditioner so it is dry in the morning. Many thanks to the woman that told us to hang everything off an upside down ironing board. Brilliant.
Today we clean and lubricate our bikes
One week to go.
