Across the Mississippi and into Illinois
Today's ride: Kirksville, MO to Quincy, IL: 76 miles, ~3,000 feet of climb.
Rode past the 2,000 mile mark of our 3,400 mile trip. A nice feeling of accomplishment.
Best road sign today: "Troublesome Creek"
Roads were smooth. Wind started as a quartering tail wind and ended as a bit of a head wind. It got to the mid-80s with some humidity. Nice, as long as you were moving.
Our buttocks were happy to only be on the saddle for a little over 4 hours.
The flooding of the Mississippi closed the west bound bridge, so we had two way traffic as we crossed. It was a bit tight. A pickup followed us across the bridge. He had 3 10' 2"x 6"s in the bed of his truck with the ends sticking out the rear right side of the bed on the tail gate. He never passed us, thankfully, as one of the 3 of us may have taken some wood to the head.
Drivers have been so accommodating of our group. A few horns, a few fingers. We just ride on.
A bit of Quincy is quite damp.
This must have been quite a town. We got off the busy road and rode by a large quantity of very large, older homes. A few are fixer uppers.
The Mom and twin sister of the mechanic that rides with us welcomed us into Illinois. She is quite a Mom.
Tomorrow is another 100+ miles, so we will be in bed by 8.
