Another Wonderful Ride
Today's Ride: Victor, NY to Syracuse, NY: 86 miles; 3,600 feet of climb
Great weather again: 50s to 70s, sunny, little to no wind. The climbs were much gentler than yesterday's.
Some of the east coasters have had friends join them for parts of the ride. Today, a couple of good, younger riders from a friend's Thursday Night Mens Club joined. They got baptized by fire into the Linda Hill Climbing Club. We hit a long hill, they were quickly out of the saddles, cranking away when Linda passed them on the left, in her saddle, steady cadence of 80, pulse 60, respiration 15. Welcome to my world fellas.
The first 30 miles were into Geneva. Nice rolling hills. Very little traffic, good roads. Great SAG right on the lake.
Rode through Seneca Falls, the site of the first meetings of the womens sufferage movement. It is a nice national monument, if you get a chance to take the tour.
The locals believe it is the basis of Bedford Falls in "Its a Wonderful Life"
The second SAG was at an ice cream store in the middle of nowhere......just a wide spot in the road. We stayed there for an hour, just hanging out and working our way through piles of ice cream.
Rode onto a section of the Erie Canal
Then into Syracuse, which plays an important role in my life. My folks met there in school (SU) in 1950, graduated in '51, got married in '52; then had my sister in '54 and me in '56. Thank you Syracuse, and of course, Mom and Dad.
Good catered dinner at the hotel, then a bunch of us went out for another run of ice cream.
The logistics manager on this trip keeps it fun and takes good care of us. He always takes great photos, so we got him in one of our. He said to hurry on the photo as he can only hold his stomach in so long.
Some of the talk at dinner was how tomorrow is such a short day (71 miles). We all agreed that 6 weeks ago, that would not be considered a short day.
