Two days off

So yesterday was a rest day in Junction City, KS, and rest we did. Really. It was a quiet day.

Today, Bill and I took a Lyft to the next stop, Topeka, in order to give his wound another day to heal outside of the bike shorts and saddle. We were dropped off at the state capitol,

which has some beautiful murals of Kansas history, including this one of John Brown.

I love that painting and was excited to see it in real life.

We then walked over to the Brown vs. Board of Education national historic site at the Monroe School, which had an interesting display of what led up to the Supreme Court decision and its legacy. Also, learned about the Exodusters, African Americans who migrated from the south to Kansas, starting in 1879.

Then, some good Kansas bbq at HHB (Hogs, Herds, and Bird) and another Lyft to our hotel. I found a nice local yarn shop about a 1 1/2 miles away and since I've finished knitting pretty much every bit of yarn I brought along, I took a walk over to Yak 'n Yarn to replenish.

So, although we missed riding through what sounded like some beautiful country today, it was a good day. Looking forward to joining the rest of the group on our bikes tomorrow.
