Wonderful Party
Today's ride: Richmond, IN to Marysville, OH: 105 miles, 2,400 feet of climb
Woke up to darkness and rain. First thought: could be a long day.
Took off at 7 AM into the rain and the darkest it has been at the start of any of our rides. Hit the Ohio line and one guy yelled "OHIO SIGN", so everyone had to turn around to get a photo of the sign.
Linda caught the Kodak moment.
It rained on and off for the first 40 miles. At mile 42 we pulled into the SAG stop in Covington, OH, to a big group of people cheering, a couple of canopies, and really good music playing on a boom box.
Two of our riding friends are from SW Ohio. Their families, co-workers, customers, and running club set up the party to everyone's surprise. A very nice group of people. Good to meet some of the family members we have heard so much about.
I especially like the cookies one of the rider's partner made with our cross country route in red.
The business partner of the other rider greeted each rider into SAG with a hardy "Welcome to Ohio" and a box of buckeyes.
The rain stopped, we had cloud cover, and a tail wind to really enjoy the remaining 63 miles of SW Ohio countryside. The roads are in great shape. We had lots of twists and turns and minor rolling hills. The scenery was wonderful.
The only downside is all the standing water in the fields. Going to be a tough year for farmers in this part of the country.
The day went from "meh", to one of the best days on tour. It was nice to complete that distance in just bit over 6 hours in saddle.
A number of people are now joining in for rides or for dinner. It is nice to meet the other riders friends and families. Last night we had dinner with Linda's sister Jacquie, our brother in law Howard, and their son Phil.
Tomorrow we head to Wooster. 98 miles and allegedly eastern Ohio is more hilly than western. We would all love another day like today.
