Ft Hancock to Van Horn

74 mile day with some nice tailwinds (20-30) and scattered terrifying gusty crosswinds (40-50?). This was compounded by riding on a road that was last maintained by the Mexican government when this part of Texas was part of Mexico. Our goal was to make it to Van Horn before 1:00 when the gusts were supposed to pick up. We did and they did --- our first sandstorm.

Got to the rv park to see the wolf pack (young guys on staff) valiantly trying to set up tents. Finally they gave up and booked us into hotels. A nice respite. Tomorrow looks like similar weather so not sure what the plan is.

  2. Boy, that sure sounded like a nasty day! Not sure where you are now but hope the weather has not been problematic. Safe travels!
