Shepherd to Silsbee

Shorter day, ~59 miles. Sunny with a 5 to 7 mph headwind as we rode due east.
Rode through the Big Thicket National Preserve.

Had ~4 miles where they ground up the asphalt and had not yet laid the new top coat. Just a small ribbon on the shoulder that was smooth.

A lot of lumber trucks hauling logs to the 2 pulp mills near by. The drivers get paid by the load, so they are moving. Most tolerate bicyclists. A few bad apples.

One rider was blown off the road today and somehow landed on her feet and ran down the hill after nailing the dismount. Didn't see it, but man that is good.

We lost a rider yesterday for around a week, after her crash. Sad event, but she has a great attitude.

Great hamburgers for lunch at a small grocery store in the middle of nowhere. A lot of good old boys having lunch. One said "be safe out there". A rider and mechanic looked at each other and both said "damn that sounded like a threat".
